Artwork candles by Matsumoto
CANDLES WITH ARTWORK. FRAME OR GAZE?
Artwork candles are called "Erousoku" (絵ろうそく) in Japanese. Often, expensive when compared to ordinal candles.
They tend to burn slowly and fire frame of the candles are much bigger and wobbly. Because they are handmade using extracted wax of Rhus succedanea trees. Wick of Japanese candles are made with either Washi (Japanese paper) or Igusa (rush). It almost takes forever to finish making one because wax is placed by hand and wait until the first wax to dry up. When its dry, second wax is placed. That is why completed Japanese candles cross section looks like tree rings.
