430 YEARS OF HISTORY, IBASEN'S FOLDING FAN.

In Kobunacho of Tokyo, Ibasen opens up the store for nearly 430 years since Edo period. If you are looking for a folding fan that is top quality, this is the place to go.

Fabrics and bamboos that are used in Ibasen's folding fan are materials they are very particular of. Using high quality materials contributes to product's life cycle as well as to its appearance. Staining process is vital to all handicrafts. Choosing the sturdiest materials is not the answer in handicrafts, visual quality also matters.

Ibasen use silk, Japanese paper (washi), or yukata fabrics to cover both products solidness and high visual quality.

Ogiyachijimi sensu.

Ogiyachijimi is a hemp fabric made in Ogiya of Niigata. Ogiyachijimi is registered as intangible cultural heritage of UNESCO. A word Ogiyachijimi is a combination word of "Ogiya" and "chijimi" (meaning "to shrink"). Shrank hemp fabric is more durable.

Silk sensu.

Price: ¥8,640

High quality sensu is used. Flower designed on the folding fan is birth flower and drawn by hand. Choose your birth flower at the store and it takes around 10 days to finish. Other silk sensu without flower are also available for around ¥3,000.

Edo sensu.

Price: ¥10,800

High quality cotton that is used for Yukata (A type of kimono) is its main material.

Ukiyoe sensu. (Katsushika Hokusai)

Price: ¥12,960

Ukiyoe is a Japanese ancient style of painting (mostly wood block painting) that was developed in Edo period. This folding fan is designed of ukiyoe painted by Katsushika Hokusai.
