A JAPANESE LIMITED EDITION PRODUCT BY MICROPLANE SO-CALLED "DAIKON GRATER".

Grating "Japanese white radish" (Daikon) is something indispensable for day-to-day lives in Japan. There are so many foods goes wonderfully well with grated "daikon". (Is called "Daikon oroshi" BTW). For "Nabe" (Japanese stew), grilled fish, "Tamagoyaki" (Japanese "rolled" omelette), "Hanba-gu" (Similar to Salisbury steak), on rice, and so on.

"Daikon" surely isn't the only thing to grate if you like cooking. Even if you are raising a small children or taking care of elderly, having a useful grater would make your life greater.

This time, handy tool brand in USA, Microplane, has new product called "Japanese style grater" that is only sold in Japan. All Microplane's items are imported by a Japanese company called "Ikesho" (池商), plays a role as an authorized distributor.

To show you this product, I didn't see any fun in just grating foodstuff. So decided to prepare "Yakiniku" sauce by using the grater. (Yakiniku is Japanese style BBQ)

blade, grater, daikon, mementravel, ikesho

This Stainless blade is made in USA. (Assembled in Mexico) The projections are sharp. But angle of projections seems extremely low, wondering if they really work. (It made me worried because most of Japanese grater has 90-degree projections.) Texture of the blade is smooth and slightly matted.

grip, handle of Japanese style grater, mementravel

Polypropylene handle provides comfortability. This material may not look cool as wooden handles, but surely gives much greater grip. Slightly soft handle has many features, it is non-slippery, hardly feels fatigue, more hygienic than woods.

Ethylene-propylene rubber, grater, microplane, mementravel

Ethylene-propylene rubber as nonslip work. It is so nice to see these kinds of practical features.

grating onion by microplane's grater, mementravel

Grate peeled onion. The onion didn't get caught on the blade. Very smooth.

Next up is apple. By adding fruits like apple, it makes the sauce milder and tastier.

Ginger. Does not need power to grate so far.

Most worried part, garlic. So many time scratched tip of my finger with my old grater because it needed certain amount of pressure to grate food. But with Microplane's grater, no high pressure is necessary to get a job done. No bandaid is needed this time.

Put in some chili pepper. Adjust the amount depending on your preference. I like it hot.

Putting white sesame, this makes the sauce more flavory.

Add some sesame oil.

Add some black pepper.

Secret flavor. "Kanzuri" (かんずり), a fermented seasoning that are mixed with red pepper, citrus, citrus, salt.

Use only a little bit. This seasoning is spicy and salty.

Add soy sauce. If you prefer sweet sauce, use "Amakuchi" sweet soy sauce.

Mix well and done.
