Kamakura-bori by Hakkodo

TRADITIONAL CRAFTING CALLED KAMAKURA-BORI.
Kamakura-bori is referred to plates, cups, trays, boxes and many other crafted materials. They are carved and lacquered in many layers. It usually takes a month to finish a piece.
It's near 800 years of history, and its style and shapes are changing along with time. So, the shape and material used in specific kamakura-bori could tell when it's made.
Price may not be cheap, but surely worth it. If you are fed up with cheap souvenir. Go for these.
A shop called Hakkodo was founded 117 years ago. Making kamakura-bori for over generations.

Guri Karakusa, flat plate. (ぐり唐草)
Price: ¥15,500
7inch diameter.

Guri Karakusa, rectangle tray.
Price: ¥39,000
14inch x 9.5inch.
One of the traditional craft style called "Tsuishu" (堆朱) (layers of lacquer). Matte coloring.

Hanagawara, round shape tray. (花瓦)
Price: ¥40,000
12inch diameter. Hanagawara is an image of lotus flower.

Hanagawara, Chataku.
Price: ¥103,000 (For 5 trays.)
Chataku (茶托) is Japanese coaster, used to lay Japanese tea cups. Scars put by cutting sword give additional charm as you use them.

Toka, round shape tray. (刀華)
Price: ¥160,000
15inch diameter. From edge to center, cutting swords are used from thick to thin. Giving it image of flower of blade. Modernized pattern.

Tsuwabuki. (ツワブキ)
Price: ¥38,000
Tsuwabuki is Japanese silverleaf (Farfugium japonicum).

Zakuro. (ザクロ)
Price: ¥45,000
Zakuro is Pomegranate. Approximately 9.5inch each side. Pomegranate is symbol and prosperity of descendants.
