A LACQUER CARD CASE THAT YOU'LL WANT TO SHOW OFF.

"Wajima kirimoto"( (輪島キリモト) is a maker of lacquer products in Ishikawa prefecture. The company has been running for more than 200 years. The technique and skill has been inherited upon generation to generation, the current owner is 7th of the family.

Although lacquer products require special care and cleaning, they are one of the things you can only find in Japan.

On top of "ordinal" lacquerwares, they make unique product; "A card case made with lacquer". This card case is made out of 10 wooden parts. It requires precise skill to be built and stay in tact. To do that, the card case is covered with cloth and washi. The surface is finished by Kirimoto's unique technique called "Makiji" (蒔地). Makiji is an applied technique of rough coat of Wajima lacquer. Using diatomaceous earth as its foundation, placing many layers. (Lacquer and diatomaceous earth in mix provides extremely high durability.) Completed surface is so hard, it makes really difficult to scratch with metal.

There are 3 shops, 2 in Ishikawa and Tokyo. As lacquerware with this quality, the price is reasonable.
