Matcha flavor mentos by Kracie

CHEWY MATCHA MANTOS ISN'T JUST MATCHA FLAVOR SNACK.

As matcha gets well-known globally, more of matcha flavor sweets and snacks are made by many companies. Some of them are really delicious, like matcha flavor kit-kats, others are not so much.

In this post, I'd like to write about matcha flavor mentos, which I found it good, weird in a way but good. (In Japan, products of mentos are produced by a company called "Kracie" (クラシエフーズ).) The reason why I think it weird was because its texture, being chewy. I didn't think any tea flavor should get along with chewy flavor. It is OK to try matcha chocolate because there is always tea flavor chocolate sold at stores, and in fact, in most cases, they are good.

In my opinion, there are two conditions of making matcha sweet or snack. First, it needs to be something sweet, and second is to be good companion for tea. Meaning got to be enjoyable with tea. If you ever tasted matcha before, imagine if there is matcha potato chips you can buy. You may try the first time because you'll be curious. But will you buy again?

So, as my first try, buying this matcha flavor mentos would be something inevitable but it turned out to be good. If you want to see yourself, try looking in any convenience stores and supermarkets in Japan.

The picture shows 13 mentos but in fact there are 14. I just couldn't wait. Smell nothing like matcha and probably you can't tell what it is without the package unless you eat it. Texture is the same as other mentos flavors, hard chewy mentos. Right after a first bite, you'll taste THE matcha. Rich matcha flavor spreads in mouth, and I liked the strong matcha-ness.

Hope you'll like it, too.

Where to buy: "mentos (by Kracie)"

According to MENTOS Japan's website, it's sold nationwide in convenience stores and shops in train stations. Trying train stations may be a good idea since you will use trains to travel around Japan. Try locating shops called "Kiosk" (キオスク).
