"Nambu ironware" (AKA Nambu tekki, 南部鉄器) is one of the staple memento in Iwate prefecture. It is never too hard to find nambu-tekki store in the region.
Among those nambu-tekki maker, "Itchu-do" (壱鋳堂) is recently established company that makes vivid color and unique design. The design by Mr. Nakamura who is craft and graphic designer, has won in many design competitions. Even Museum of Modern Art in New York adopted teapot designed by Mr. Nakamura at the cafe in 2004.
Dealers of Itchu-do is nationwide and spreading. If you are fed up with old type of Japanese nambu ironwares, Itchu-do would just be what you are looking for.
