Pi-natto by Midorikawaseika


SOUNDS LIKE NATTO BUT NOT NATTO. IT'S PEANUTS.

It sounds like natto, sticky Japanese traditional fermented soybeans food. Actually, Pi-natto is made of peanuts, boiled, sugar marinated and dried. So, Pi-natto is "Ama-natto".

There's a big difference between natto and ama-natto. A word ama in Japanese means sweet when to describe food. (A word "ama" means "rain" in some context but use a different kanji.) Anyways, the difference between natto and ama-natto is not only whether it's sweetened or not, but also the ingredients. Natto exclusively use soybeans and ama-natto use various types of beans. Plus, natto is fermented and ama-natto is covered with refined sugar after simmering with sugar syrup and dried.

So, even if you are not a fan of natto, you may like ama-natto.

Peanuts are local speciality in Chiba. (80% of peanuts made in Japan are from Chiba.) Already cooked, so there is no worries at the customs. Mild sweet and good with tea and coffee.
