Citrus Natsudaidai is Japanese summer orange known to have slight bitter taste. Preserved in sugar makes it bitter and sweet.
A sweet called "Natsumikan maruduke" is sugar preserved sweet. Flesh is hollowed out and used for jam mixed with adzuki beans, and put back in later. It looks almost as the whole orange is preserved when cut open.
