Rice sweets by Seiyo kashi club
RICE SWEETS MADE IN WHERE ORIGIN OF KOSHIHIKARI, FUKUI.
There are millions of sweets made and sold in Japan. How often do you see sweets made with rice? I suppose not very often, even though rice is indispensable to Japanese lives.
Seiyo kashi club (西洋菓子倶楽部), a company runs in Fukui prefecture makes variety of sweets and many of their products are welcomed by not only locally but also airlines such as ANA. Japanese airline companies sale products made in throughout Japan. Since their carriage is limited, of course, selection of such products is highly competitive. So, being selected and sold in airline companies is status to the maker.
Let me introduce two sweets made by Seiyo kashi club, "Inahorori" and " Tsunetaro". Both sweets use rice powder of Koshihikari, the king of rice.
Inahorori.
Price: ¥650
Contains 18 cookies. The package has rice crops and cute scarecrow design.
"Okoge" (roasted rice) is what's the most feature you will enjoy. Koshihikari rice powder is slightly roasted.
Slight corn is followed by roasted rice flavor. Shouldn't expect very sugary, it's a Japanese sweet.
Mouth melting, crumbly texture. Can become easily moistened, so keep them dry once opened.
Tsunetaro.
Price: ¥700
The image of package design is "komedawara" (straw rice bag). They are used to store rice. Obviously the straws are made by rice crops.
Contains 5 manju. There is also 10 pack sold for ¥1,400.
Taste of milk and rice is a perfect match. What to like about this one is that Jotaro doesn't have too much ricy flavor. You will feel "rice" as you chew, but the timing and amount of it is just about right.
Personally, I am anti-sweet rice. My belief is "Rice must be served plain or flavored with salt or soy sauce." Except for this one. Not too much ricy but definitely, you know it's there and like it.
