TOMBOW, MASSIVE PENCIL COMPANY OVER 100 YEARS BUSINESS HISTORY.
When it comes to pencil, good pencils, people in Japan will mention the name "TOMBOW" (トンボ). In Japanese, dragonfly is pronounced "tonbo". The reason why they modified spelling of the company name is because "tonbo" might be misunderstood as "tomb".
The company was founded in 1913. Since then, pencil is their main products and it is natural to think they started to make really good eraser to sale along.
Tombow's product will easily be found in many stores as long as they handle stationaries, such as Tokyu hands and LOFT. (The price may be discretionary.)
Here are some of their products and reviews I wanted to share with you guys.
MONO-HB.
Price: ¥1,166
A dozen HB pencil with MONO eraser set.
12 pencils and MONO eraser set. Surprising that you can buy these high quality pencil for under ¥100.
A comparison of Tombow and ordinal pencils. You should be able to see a kind of bleeding on "G" at below phrase "Give a like on facebook" (A big support if you do, by the way.) and no bleeding at all on the phrase written with Tombow pencil.
Feeling that you get on writing with Tombow pencil is very smooth. Stucky feeling is absolutely none.
And sadly, the lead of ordinal pencil snapped. I carefully tried to write with this pencil (which cost the same as Tombow's) but look at what happened.
Even at the beginning, something wasn't right. It kept breaking when I sharpened this pencil where Tombow pencil was easily sharpened.
MONO zero METAL TYPE.
Price: ¥648
Refillable eraser. 4 colors variation. GOOD DESIGN AWARD winner of 2017.
Well, I can't say this is the best performing eraser if you are to erase bunch of things. This is because of 2 reasons. 1 - Size, to fit in a pocket book. 2 - Use, this thin designed eraser is perfect for erasing small parts of blueprint draft or drawing.
Each knocking will give very precise and short length to avoid breakage. The eraser itself is made very durable, too.
Compared with 1cm thick pen I found on my desk. 5mm metallic body practically fit anywhere.
Perfect fit both size and visual with any notebook.
MONO dust CATCH and holder type.
Price: ¥108 and ¥162
Eraser that makes less and settling crumbs. There are basic square and holder type are available.
After erasing half of the line. I don't see any crumbs.
After erasing entire line, this much of crumbs came out. Let me look at the tip of this eraser.
You see crumbs are settled each other and compiled to a tiny bit. Performance of erasing of both this square and holder type "dust CATCH" is the same. Holder type costs a bit extra but refillable and has a cap.
What normally happen is this. Let's see.
Compared to "dust CATCH", a big crumbs came out. (But still MONO quality. The dust is nicely settled.)
MONO graph zero.
Price: ¥648
Mechanical pencil that is an upgrade version of "MONO graph". Making its grip from plastic to metal. Extremely slip-less and smooth writing.
5 variations. Metallic grip is very stable in writing and drawing which surely satisfy even a professional.
Extra smooth writing. Feels like my writing skill improved.
This is where eraser is stored. I thought this has no eraser at the first look. The eraser is designed to use in very sensitive writing and drawing. That's why its very small.
To use the eraser, twist its head clockwise. You can adjust how much of it out.
OLNO SWIFT.
Price: ¥648
Revolutionary invention of Tombow. 2 way knocking mechanical pencil. Head and body. 4mm tip gives the lead high durability.
Knocking the head, of course, works.
Knock...well, almost snapping it, the body where there is a hollow. It works!
Seeing is believing, I guess.
This long shaped rubber grip minimize the stress of holding and writing. 4mm length tip makes the lead more durable and smoothly writing feeling.
