Arimatsu Narumi Shibori by Aya Irodori

BEAUTIFUL TRADITIONAL CRAFTS, "ARIMATSU NARUMI SHIBORI" (有松鳴海絞り).

"Arimatsu Narumi Shibori" (有松鳴海絞り) is a traditional printing method originated in early Edo period at "Arimatsu" (有松) and "Narumi (鳴海) region of Aichi prefecture of Japan. The main characteristic of the printing method is to "Shiboru" (a verb of Shibori) clothes before printing takes place, which has as many as 100 variations.

Unique pattern of Arimatsu Narumi Shibori is put by being tied with cotton threads before printing. The tied parts will not be dyed. When the threads are removed, the Arimatsu Narumi patterns are shown. Although the average of days are different among each craftworkers, it normally takes 50 to 60 days.

"Ms. Aya Osuka" is new blood in the industry who was fascinated by the charm of Arimatsu Narumi Shibori. She made a plunge into the industry in 2007. With her background of Nagoya University of Arts and Sciences, she has been winning many awards of competitions and fashion shows. Now, Arimatsu Narumi Shibori crafts of "Aya Irodori" fascinate Japan, soon the world, too.

Dyed with "Yoroidan Shibori" (鎧段絞り). The patterned dyeing is called "Yoroidan" because it reminds staged pattern of samurai's armor worn in the battlefield. (A kanji character, "鎧" is Japanese word for "armor". Pronounced "Yoroi".)

A delicate but durable fabric, hemp is dyed by "Shikoro Shibori". Seen through fabric enhance the beautiful pattern.

Putting the stole on drifting. (Fluffy)

The fabric is thin and light. Putting it on tightly makes you look mature.

For 6 to 8cm spacean interval, the cloth is winded with cotton thread by 5mm interval, second interval of the cloth left unwinded, then winded again. So unwinded parts are going to be printed.

Sized are available for S, M, L, XL. Dyed with new method called "Crush" which started sometime later than 2000. Irregularity of dyeing pattern is made by winding equally but parts are taken randomly. Dyed twice with different thickness to express depth in the pattern.
